Watch Penny's Full Interview
What inspired Penny to make a career change?
Penny has a B.S. in Paralegal Studies and an M.S. in Business Management/Human Resources. She worked in the Human Resources field for 24 years, prior to working with Liz, and was in a leadership role for 19 years. She worked in several different industries including health care, manufacturing, logistics and local government.
Penny has worked in many organizational structures, from a small family-owned company to large corporations, trying to find her perfect niche. She often found herself working full days and then taking her laptop home and working evenings and even some holidays. Some of her positions required lots of travel as well. She found herself missing out on time that should have been spent with her family, but thought that’s what one had to do to get ahead. Over the span of her career, she was the casualty of two different group layoffs due to mergers/corporate restructures, and although she was fortunate to land on her feet both times, it was frustrating to have her career so greatly impacted by the decisions of others. She’s had an interest in business ownership for many years – her dream was to open a pet boutique, with fun, unique products for pets and possibly a grooming service. Although she did not pursue the pet boutique idea, in 2023 she finally decided it was time to explore business ownership, with flexibility and the ability to make her own decisions.
Penny wanted to explore options that provided a needed service that she found interesting and allowed her to engage with her community and help people. She also looked for opportunities that did not have a huge initial investment that she could do from home.
The most rewarding part of her franchise investigation process was narrowing down the options and finding the best fit based on Liz’s initial assessment and the criteria Penny was looking for.
Why will Penny make a great franchise owner?
After completing the initial assessment with Liz and exploring the available franchise opportunities, Penny chose what felt like the right fit for her. Her passion is helping people and supporting those in her community. Knowing this, She felt she could make a difference in the lives of others and fill a unique need through a Senior Care Authority Franchise.
